CBD or Cannabidiol is a cannabinoid found in both the hemp plant and marijuana. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD isn’t psychoactive so it won’t be getting you high. The usual way CBD is formulated is oil, but CBD can be sold in many forms such as extracts, vapes, edibles, and topicals.
What Are The Benefits of CBD Oils?
When it comes to what CBD oil can do, most research is done in clinical trials on people who suffer from severe neurological conditions such as Dravet syndrome, and Parkinson's. There have also been some studies that show effectiveness when reducing chemotherapy-induced nausea, and managing multiple sclerosis. When treating these conditions these doses are often much higher and administered by a practitioner.
What is the most effective way to take CBD Oil?
If you don’t suffer from these conditions CBD oils still have plenty of benefits when ingested at proper doses, these benefits include mild stress and pain relief and improved sleep. When it comes to doses although through clinical review the max someone can tolerate is 1500mg/day it's recommended that you take the recommended short-term dose of 20mg - 200mg/day.
For the best results when taking CBD oil, it is recommended to place the drops under the tongue, oil can also be applied topically to an affected area where it’ll instead absorb into the skin.
What About The Side Effects?
While CBD is generally considered safe it's important to keep in mind that there can be some adverse effects when consumed orally, such as fatigue, gas, and changes in appetite to name a few.
What About Topicals?
When it comes to CBD topicals they can help treat mild joint, muscle, and nerve pain, but they also have been shown to treat some skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
CBD topicals such as creams, balms, and ointments are best when applied routinely rather than in large amounts infrequently.
Summary
In short, CBD can be something beneficial to help ease symptoms of anxiety, minor stress and pain, neurological disorders, and plenty of other conditions.
That said, the world of cannabinoids is new and ever-evolving, and a lot of research on CBD is currently ongoing. Most research is in the short-term so the long-term effects of consumption aren’t well known, and many populations aren’t extensively tested on either.
